Autumnal Preperations

Yep; it is defintley  that time of year.
You may have noticed the changes to the blog. This is all because I'm an excited holiday freak. Get used to it.
Ah. Exciting, no?

Today I wanted to give a few tips on Gimp.
  1. Explore the tools. Take a screenshot of you in-game and just use the tools on it.
  2. Begin using layers. This can be achieved by going to Layer>New Layer. If you need to blend something but not ruin the original photo, go to Layer>New Layer from Visible.
  3. Download new brushes and graidents. To do this, go to deviantart.com.   Now, go to the search box and type in 'gimp brushes' or 'gimp gradients' 'gimp patterns'. Find a 'pack' and then make sure it says 'in Gimp ___es' under it. Click it, and preview what it says under the bottom to make sure there are no copyright things. Now, at the top right, there is a 'download' button. It will be a zip file. Find a thing to open it with, and then select the whole contents that have the file name at the end as GIMP___. Select, copy, and then go to your 'gimp' folder. Yes, there is a directory folder. There will be all the different patterns, tools, ect. You need to go to whatever type of thing you just downloaded (like, if you did a brush, go to the brushes folder). Paste into this and then close out the program of Gimp if it is running. Re-open it, and viola! Your brushes/gradient/pattern is there!
  4. Do a ton of experimenting. Remember that even if things are not correct and looking well in the end, don't bother trying to fix it if it's not going to be published. Think of all the good aspects of the drawing.
  5. All art is good. Skill does not make art; the effort put into the art, the inspiration, the liking of making it... that is what makes your art.
I hope that helped!

  1. Gimp is awesome, though I'm still figuring out how to make small animations on it. XD
